Q&A with Lia Baird – We Will Rock You Cast Member

Your name:

Lia Baird

What role(s) are you playing?

Ensemble, Dance Captain

How long have you been in theatre?

Was I ever not?

What do you do by day?

A whole lot of everything (“Client Services Coordinator”) at Flato Markham Theatre

Why do you do community theatre?

Building a family out of shared passion and pure enjoyment, and make more friends who share my weirdness.

What’s your favourite moment/song in this show – without giving too much away? Why?

It’s really difficult to choose one. I love all the upbeat and intense numbers because everyone is so high energy and immersed… but our opening numbers for act 1 and act 2 get my adrenaline going just because we are all ready to get back out there.

Do you have an rituals that you do to help you to prepare before you perform?

I always like to plug in and listen to my favourite music to get my energy up while doing a physical warm-up. I also like to do a quick crazy dance like I’ve won the lottery, or like a little girl who just got the best present ever– since that’s basically what being part of a show is.

What is it that you like about working with Marquee?

It’s been great getting to know more about the Marquee community! There’s something for everyone, and its always fun coming into rehearsals to see all the spaces occupied for dance, theatre, classes, costumes and more… there is a great energy in the air, and so many people who are passionate about what they do.

What would you love for the potential audience out there to know about the show?

I’ve never been part of a more hard-working and driven cast, creative, and production team. I hope they’re able to enjoy every second and get immersed into our world by dancing, clapping and singing along every step of the way… and then tell your friends and come back with them because you can never get enough of it.
